I started advocating for women and especially working mothers.
For a long time, admittedly, I thrived in that Hustle culture. It’s really starting to understand the difference between what hard work is and hustle is.
The pursuit of balance actually is a piece of what causes some of this burnout. Balance is a constantly evolving thing in your life, depending on your family situation. I personally do not believe that magic happens in the middle. Instead, I like to use work life integration.
With women, it becomes more prevalent with burnout and with hustle and ignoring these pieces. On a physiological, sort of like cellular, genetic kind of level, we are predisposed to be people pleasers. When you bring that into a male dominated work culture, it all of a sudden just like pushes all the levers on all the wrong ways.
Someone inspired you to move out of a big corporate job into creating your own thing and doing it your own way. She says two light bulb moments helped her see that this could be a viable next path. Kohn says women can bring all of their experience together to change the world.
